About us

About us/ Our team/ Contact

MUD Workshop is a community-centered design and planning practice dedicated to neighborhood and public realm revitalization. Our work responds to the realities of climate change and the long-standing inequities embedded in the built environment, with a focus on climate preparedness and the role of public space as a vital civic resource. We are systems thinkers who develop planning and implementation frameworks through community visioning and stakeholder buy-in.

At MUD Workshop, we are dedicated to leveraging the dynamic interplay between the built environment and people to foster positive urban transformations. We believe strongly in the power of grassroots engagement to influence attitudes and policies and to catalyze lasting change within communities. Our core values are grounded in addressing the global imperative of resiliency, championing the unmet needs of underserved communities, and reinvigorating public spaces as vital centers of social life.

Our approach places meaningful interaction at the center of our work - both within the diverse communities we serve and between communities and policymakers. We see these relationships as essential to building trust, developing shared priorities, and creating the foundation for authentic, impactful design and successful implementation.

Our work draws on expertise in land use, zoning, streetscape planning and design, public and open space design, and waterfront planning and design. We use this expertise to translate complex information into accessible, community-facing ideas, tools, and educational materials. Through interdisciplinary thinking, we help stakeholders understand trade-offs, identify common ground, and make informed decisions together. By combining innovative design solutions, thoughtful policy recommendations, and inclusive engagement, we aim to improve quality of life and create places that are more resilient, inclusive, and vibrant.

We have led and collaborated on several award-winning, interdisciplinary projects across the New York State tri-state area. MUD Workshop is certified as an M/WBE practice with New York State, New York City, and PANYNJ, and as a DBE and SBE with PANYNJ. Our clients include City and State agencies, community-based organizations, not-for-profits, institutions, private organizations, and developers
