Hoboken’s 2018 Master Plan Reexamination was the city’s first comprehensive update in over a decade, revisiting the 2004 Master Plan and 2010 Reexamination in the context of sharp population growth, increased development pressure, and escalating climate risks. The report distilled hundreds of prior recommendations and studies into a focused strategic framework that reflects residents’ values and desires and the city’s evolving character.

MUD Workshop translated technical content into an accessible, citywide vision organized around five core themes: Complete Neighborhoods, Connected Places, Shared Prosperity, Living Sustainably, and Engaged and Efficient Governance. We led the outreach, visual design of the report, produced summary graphics that synthesized demographic and land use data, and created visually engaging thematic spreads to anchor public discussions. Working closely with City staff and BFJ Planning, we also contributed to framing and language development, ensuring that each theme linked directly to community feedback, capital priorities, and actionable policy goals. The result was a clear, communicable blueprint that could guide land use, mobility, and resilience strategies across City departments and stakeholder groups.
